D.A. declines charges after inquiry into whether an L.A. sheriff’s detective improperly helped a judge

Los Angeles County pro­sec­utors de­cided there was in­suf­fi­cient evid­ence to file mis­de­mean­or charges against sher­iff’s Det. Mark Lil­li­en­feld after an in­vest­ig­a­tion ex­amined wheth­er he il­leg­ally helped a judge who was charged with bat­tery. Lil­li­en­feld and the judge, Craig Rich­man, had known each oth­er for years. Rich­man was ul­ti­mately ac­quit­ted of bat­tery after a tri­al.
