Captain of the USS Indianapolis convicted

After the deaths of 880 men un­der his com­mand, Capt. Charles B. McVay III was court mar­tialed by the Navy. He later com­mit­ted sui­cide in 1968, after re­portedly suf­fer­ing from men­tal health prob­lems for years. Ul­ti­mately, Pres­id­ent Clin­ton pardoned him posthum­ously in 2000.
