Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Montez is one of several deputies who were found to have made false statements but kept their jobs. The county’s Civil Service Commission reinstated Montez despite concluding that he lied when he told investigators he did not see or hear another deputy assault an inmate.
