LAPD chief and commission faults officer in fatal shooting of unarmed man

LAPD Officer Brian Van Gorden opened fire March 5 after chasing a stolen vehicle driven by Sergio Navas, 35, into Burbank. The L.A. Police Commission agreed with Chief Charlie Beck’s finding that an officer with similar training and experience “would not reasonably believe Navas’ actions presented an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury.”
