LAPD report on death of Jorge Azucena
A Los Angeles Police Department report obtained this week by The Times under the state’s public records act provides new details on the events that led to the death of Jorge Azucena while in police custody in September 2013. Following his arrest after leading police on a car chase, Azucena repeatedly complained that he could not breathe and was suffering from asthma, but his requests for medical attention were ignored by officers, according to the report. Azucena, 26, died in an LAPD station jail cell. Coroner’s officials have concluded that his death was likely caused by an asthma attack.
