New York Atty. General asks for power to investigate police killings

In a let­ter sent to Gov. An­drew Cuomo on Monday, New York Atty. Gen­er­al Eric Schnei­der­m­an asked for the power to in­de­pend­ently in­vest­ig­ate the killing of any un­armed ci­vil­ian by a po­lice of­ficer in the state, ef­fect­ively re­mov­ing loc­al dis­trict at­tor­neys from the equa­tion and elim­in­at­ing what many see as a con­flict of in­terest.
