Chief to Mayor Yorty: Officer “soiled his own nest”

This memo to Mayor Sam Yorty talks about Lt. Hank Hernandez as a possible department liaison to the city’s growing Mexican-American community. Hernandez, who worked at the Hollenbeck station in Boyle Heights, was highly regarded in the community, the memo notes. The liaison position was referenced in Ruben Salazar’s March 13 column about Chief Davis’ meeting with Latino reporters. The reporters had pressed the chief to appoint a liaison.
