The Times’ value-added methodology

This pa­per de­scribes the meth­od which Richard Bud­din, a re­search­er hired by the Times, used to cal­cu­late teach­er ef­fect­ive­ness at rais­ing test scores. An earli­er ver­sion of the doc­u­ment con­tained sim­il­ar find­ings based on a slightly smal­ler num­ber of stu­dents and teach­ers used at an earli­er stage of the ana­lys­is.
