BYD Metro miles
BYD’s five electric buses had a promised range of 155 miles per charge, but Metro drivers never drove them beyond 133 miles and the transit district said the buses often traveled less than 100 miles before their batteries ran low. Frequent service interruptions including stalling on hills also cut the daily routes short. This chart by Metro calculates the average distance realized each day.
BYD officials said Metro drivers returned to the garage with power to spare and complained of broken parts that did not exist. They said the record reflected poor acceptance of the new technology.
