Caltrans roof costs

The Cali­for­nia De­part­ment of Trans­port­a­tion paid for ex­pens­ive re­pairs — in some cases more than $100,000 — to roofs on houses the de­part­ment may one day bull­doze. At least one of the houses was va­cant. Private roof­ing con­tract­ors who re­viewed doc­u­ment­a­tion of the jobs said the costs look ex­cess­ive, a state law­maker has prom­ised an in­vest­ig­a­tion.
