Charles Loeser will excerpts

In a hand­writ­ten will, Charles A. Loeser donated eight of his 15 paint­ings by Cez­anne “to the Pres­id­ent of the United States of Amer­ica and his suc­cessors in of­fice for the ad­orn­ment of the White House at Wash­ing­ton.” His young daugh­ter Mat­ilda was giv­en a life in­terest in the Cez­annes. Un­der pres­sure, she re­lin­quished them in 1950.
