Compton city attorney denies payments to council are illegal

Compton City Atty. Craig J. Corn­well re­spon­ded last week to a dis­trict at­tor­ney’s of­fice let­ter al­leging that the city’s dec­ades-long prac­tice of pay­ing coun­cil mem­bers and the may­or for sit­ting on vari­ous city com­mis­sion vi­ol­ated the city charter. Corn­well ar­gued in his own let­ter to the D.A.’s of­fice that the pay­ments were al­lowed.
