Federal Investigation into Newark, N.J. Police: Summary of findings

The De­part­ment of Justice found the Ne­wark, N.J., Po­lice De­part­ment vi­ol­ated res­id­ents con­sti­tu­tion­al rights in 75 per­cent of all ped­es­tri­an stops made by of­ficers, may have un­fairly vi­ol­ated black res­id­ents and re­peatedly used ex­cess­ive force against sus­pects. The agency will now sub­mit to court ap­poin­ted mon­it­or­ing.
