Jazz great Duke Ellington dies

On May 25, 1974, The Times re­por­ted that Ed­ward Kennedy El­ling­ton, the cool, im­pec­cable bandlead­er-com­poser whose Har­lem sound stirred the world’s jazz lov­ers for dec­ades, had died. He was 75.
