The U.S. De­part­ment of Justice says it will in­ter­vene if Tribune Pub­lish­ing, own­er of the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Uni­on-Tribune, is the suc­cess­ful bid­der in Wed­nes­day’s auc­tion for the Or­ange County Re­gister, River­side Press-En­ter­prise and oth­er prop­er­ties of bank­rupt Free­dom Com­mu­nic­a­tions.
