LAPD rejects LA Times request for the names of the officers who shot Ezell Ford Jr.

The Los Angeles Po­lice De­part­ment’s leg­al af­fairs di­vi­sion sent the LA Times a let­ter Thursday deny­ing the news­pa­per’s re­quest for the names of the of­ficers who fatally shot Ezell Ford Jr. on Aug. 11. Hours later, the de­part­ment re­leased a pub­lic state­ment identi­fy­ing the two New­ton Di­vi­sion gang of­ficers in­volved in the shoot­ing as Sharlton Wampler, a 12-year de­part­ment vet­er­an, and Ant­o­nio Vil­le­g­as, an 8-year vet­er­an.
